Katherine Winifred Dowling was born in 1858 at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
She was the daughter of Richard Dowling and Anna Maria Elizabeth Hunt.
Katherine Winifred Dowling died on 2 January 1916, at Nar Nar Goon, Victoria, Australia.
Research Notes: According to records held at St James Catholic Church Gardenvale she was confirmed at St Finbars Church in 1875 and took the name 'Agnes'. This may give rise to an assumption who had reared her. She married on the 13th May 1876 to Patrick Dore who was born in 1838 at Clounleharde, Co Limerick, Ireland. Katherine gave her profession as that of a 'Lady' on her marriage certificate and age as 19 with her usual address as Brighton. Patrick was 38 and living at Pakenham. He was a farmer at the time of their marri age. His parents were John Dore and Elizabeth O'Connor. For a full account of the Dore family, reference should be made to "Clounleharde Ireland to Mt Ararat, Gippsland'': a history of the Dore family. Katherine and Patrick were married in St Finbars Catholic Church, Brighton. The witnesses to the marriage were John Gardiner and Mary Elizabeth Hunt. They lived out their lives on a farm in Nar Nar Goon. Katherine (Kate) died on the 2nd January 1916 aged 58 and Patrick shortly followed after her on the 24th February 1916 aged 78. Little factual data seems to be known o f Kate's background except legend has it she was raised by her brothers. She and Patrick did not have any children - however, they raised a girl named Lena and two other children, Stella and Keith Cahir (Car r?). When Kate and Patrick died the remaining half of the original Mt Ararat Creek Preemptive Right was sold to John Gregory Dore for £5,423 . The original land was owned by John Dore and M.Hennessy and consisted of 640 acres. John Gregory Dore raised sheep, horses, pigs and cattle as well as crops on the land. Kate also purchased land in her own right for she bequeathed to her nephew, John Gregory Dore , the land known as No 2 9 Section A, township of Dalyston parish of Woolamai, part portion 73b fronting Daly Street and also section 21b part 73b, 52 feet fronting Powlett Street. Value at the time was given as £103/18/4.1 |

Edward Cummane was the son of James Cummane.
Edward Cummane was born circa 1820 at Moneymohill, Kilcolman/Coolcappa, Co Limerick, Ireland.
He married Catherine Downey on 10 November 1847 at Moneymohill, Kilcolman/Coolcappa; wit James Coughlan and Margaret Downey.1,2
Edward Cummane died in 1911, at Canada.1
In 1848 Edward Cummane and Catherine Downey were living at at Moneymohill, Kilcolman/Coolcappa. Edward Cummane emigrated in 1849 from Ireland, travelling on the to Canada. Research Notes: Michael and Edeward emigrated in 1849 and were brothers but this is not verified. Edward is known to have married Catherine Downey in County Limerick and to have perhaps had some issue before his emigration to Canada. Edward's daughter Flora, who as born in Canada, believed that she had a sibling or siblings in Ireland who remained there when her parents emigrated. Information gleaned from a Edward Trant of Foynes indicates that his grandmother was Johanna Commane of Moneymohill. Mr Trant is known to be related to the Command/Commane family of Canada. |

Catherine Downey was born circa 1825 at Coolcappagh and Kilcolman Parish, Co Limerick, Ireland.
She married Edward Cummane, son of James Cummane, on 10 November 1847 at Moneymohill, Kilcolman/Coolcappa; wit James Coughlan and Margaret Downey.1,2
In 1848 Catherine Downey and Edward Cummane were living at at Moneymohill, Kilcolman/Coolcappa. Research Notes: A Mary Downey resided at Gortadroma in 1852 when Griffith's Valuation Survey was compiled. Mary leased 42 and ¼ acres of land in that townland. It is possible that Mary is Catherine's widowed mother since women are generally only listed if their husbands have died. Church records include a Daniel Downey and Mary Connell who had the following issue in Kilcolman-Coolcappa: DATE Name Godparents 06 1828 Anne John Quinn & Eliz. Connelly 03 08 1831 Mary James Connell & Mary Hanley It may be that Daniel and Mary had issue prior to 1827. However, the Tithe Applotment books for Gortadroma include a Connor Downey rather than a Daniel Downey so the situation is somewhat more complicated than it seems initially (according to Mr Trant [of Foynes, Co Limerick], it was a Daniel Downey who left the land to Johanna Commane). Connor Downey leased 39 and 1/4 acres of land at Gortadroma in 1832. Perhaps Connor was Daniel's father and the Downey- Connell family lived with him in 1833. |
